Tucker Insurance was founded in 1967 by Thomas Tucker. Initially, Tucker represented only Erie Insurance on a part-time basis. Will Mays came on board in 1994 establishing the agency as full-time with one office in Amherst, Virginia and a second location in Lovingston, Virginia.
Mays purchased Tucker Insurance in 1997, renaming it Mays-Tucker Insurance, and brought on several national insurance companies in the process as well as hiring full time personnel to help the policyholders.
Mays-Tucker Insurance agency concentrates in Automobile, Homeowners, Personal Umbrellas, Boats, Motorcycles and other Personal Coverages. Additionally, Commercial Coverages are placed including, but not limited to, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Business Auto & Fleet, Commercial Umbrella, as well as other coverages to suit the business owner.
Mays-Tucker found that they could best serve Contractors, both large and small, as well as Churches, Car Dealers, Auto Body and Repair Shops, and Apartment Buildings and Complexes and have placed emphasis on insuring these type businesses.
Currently, in addition to Will Mays as principal, there are two full-time Customer Service Representatives representing a combined 80 years of insurance experience.
Our current carriers include Erie, Progressive, Mercury, GMAC, and Foremost Insurance.
Office hours are from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with after hours appointments available in office or on-site at the convenience of the policyholder.
